Calories Burned Ballet

Compare the calories burned doing ballet to a variety of other activities at the calories burned chart.

The calories burned ballet are great, but ballet is a serious pursuit that should be done for more reasons than just burning calories and losing weight. If losing weight is your goal then there are less arduous and taxing ways to do it.

Ballet is not a form of dance typically performed by overweight or obese people, however, and it will be important for many ballet participants to know how many calories burned ballet so that they can budget their diet accordingly.

And while ballet is not as physically demanding as an activity like running, for example, it is typically performed for long periods of time, many days of the week, and can account for a great many calories burned as a result. But if you’re looking for a fun activity to take up to burn some calories, there are less physically strenuous forms of dance than ballet that are worth considering.

Calories Burned – Ballet

The amount of calories burned ballet is determined by a couple of different things, one of the most important being your weight.

All data is from the Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise journal, the official journal of the American College of Sports Medicine.

  • If you weigh roughly 130 pounds: 266 calories burned ballet per hour
  • If you weigh roughly 155 pounds: 317 calories burned per hour
  • If you weigh roughly 180 pounds: 368 calories burned per hour
  • If you weigh roughly 205 pounds: 419 calories burned per hour

So as you can tell from the above list the amount of calories burned ballet isn’t massive, but it’s significant enough that if you were to perform ballet for an hour or two several days a week it would quickly add up to a significant amount of calories burned and weight lost.

Ballet is physically strenuous, however, and not an activity to be undertaken solely for weight lose purposes. There are other forms of dance and exercise better suited to those goals.
