Gardening is an activity a lot of people do regardless of the amount of calories burned gardening. If you didn’t garden, after all, plants would die, the yard would look terrible and you would have to go buy your veggies from the grocery store instead.

- If you weigh roughly 180 pounds: 327 calories burned per hour
- If you weigh roughly 205 pounds: 372 calories burned per hour
So the amount of calories burned gardening is not gigantic. It’s certainly not comparable to the amount of calories burned running, for instance. But it will help you burn calories and lose weight, and that’s the point. Every little calorie counts.
And many people find gardening enjoyable, which is great. Jogging is dreaded by most people, for instance, and many quit after a few weeks or months because of that. It’s the enjoyable activities that you make a life time habit out of, and burn steady calories as a result.
